Jan De Groote

 

Jan De Groote graduated cum laude from Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He began his internship in 2016 at the Brussels Bar.

He is now a lawyer with a special interest in human rights and constitutional law including the division of powers within the Belgian State. Jan’s areas of expertise include special aspects of criminal procedure and defendants’ rights, environmental law including its criminal aspects, and administrative law and penalties. He also assists clients in planning and construction law, contract law, and law on seizure and enforcement.

Lastly, he has relevant experience in private international law, commercial law and contract law in the broad sense (including liability law). He regularly appears before the Supreme Court, the Council of State and the Constitutional Court.

Jan De Groote is also an active volunteer scientific collaborator at the Faculty of Law and Criminology, Department of Public Law, at the VUB.
He was also recently appointed a visiting professor at the same university. His expertise in law, human rights and administrative law will be a valuable contribution to academic life.

He has a broad interest in law and has knowledge of Common Law, German law, Dutch law and French law. He also has several opinion publications in the media to his credit.

He is also president of the VUB alumni association OSB VUB vzw and is a reserve soldier in the Belgian Army.
