Tuur Van der Wee
Tuur Van der Wee successfully completed his law degree (magna cum laude) at KU Leuven in 2020 with specialisms in criminal law and international law. During his studies, it soon became clear that more socially inspired forms of law appealed strongly to him. Tuur also devoted one year to studying philosophy at KU Leuven. This training strengthened his capacity for analytical and logical thinking, as well as providing the basis for a moral foundation, which can be of great value in a social profession such as law.
After completing his studies, Tuur immediately joined the COTTYN practice. As a trainee mentored by Ann Van de Steen, he is honing his skills as a criminal, family and personal lawyer.
Tuur obtained his Salduz assistance certificate in 2021, allowing him to assist clients from the first hearing and provide appropriate support.
As of September 2021, Tuur started working as a criminal procedure law practice assistant at KU Leuven. Under the direction of Prof. Michele Panzavolta, Tuur supervises masters’ students on the criminal procedure course and focuses on sharpening his academic knowledge of criminal law.
Tuur Van der Wee also tries to educate himself in as many areas of law as possible. With his specialism in international law, he is fully engaged in mastering Belgian immigration law from a human rights perspective. Tuur likewise applies himself passionately to civil law.

Specialisms
Tuur in his own words
I consider myself an enthusiastic and driven person who always treats his clients in a respectful and friendly manner. I enjoy doing my job and will always go to great lengths to achieve a good result.
‘where there’s a will, there’s a way’
I believe that every situation has a solution, and it is just a matter of finding it. So good communication and creative thinking will always lead to an appropriate solution for any situation.
‘perseverance is knowing that each step in a process is one step closer to the goal‘
Proceedings can take a long time, and sometimes I feel that clients start to lose hope. Nevertheless, it is always important to persevere and not lose sight of the ultimate goal. Being aware of the long road ahead should not dissuade you from walking that road anyway. And when you do, it is important to be patient and remember that the outcome will make it all worthwhile.
