Thierry Hermans
Thierry Hermans earned a law degree from KU Leuven in 1997. As a young Limburger, fresh out of college, he made a less than obvious “transfer” to Aalst to start out as an associate at COTTYN.
In addition to being a partner and director of the Belgian practice, his experience and expertise make him a responsible partner and coordinator of the collection and immigration law units.
Under his leadership, our collection service has grown from modest unit to an automated and streamlined service for both large and small businesses and organisations. This involves working with a customised application which can be accessed by the client, lawyer, bailiff and the debtor.
Thierry Hermans is also responsible for the IT & ICT department where he works closely with Nele De Gols and Thomas Matthys. Together they monitor the latest developments in the fast-moving world of IT and, where necessary, handle implementation on the office network.

Thierry in his own words
Whether it’s automating a recurring job, setting up a data room or launching a new printer fleet, everything starts with an idea. In the office, I am “the go to guy” when colleagues want to see this sorted out. Particularly when it comes to the IT structure. I am not an expert on IT but I have a healthy interest in the subject. Mainly with the idea that you can save a lot of time. Time better invested in clients and their business, which can only improve service and customer friendliness.
Likewise, we have organised our collections department. Automation and digital workflows allow us the time to offer our clients a personal approach. After all, accounts receivable management is more than just collecting the money. There is the human aspect where a debtor does not necessarily want to avoid paying but often cannot. Together with the client, we look for the best solution for both parties. An instalment plan, a payment holiday… The best solution is the one that works for all parties.
